Load Bearing Bar

member of uniform section
spanning between supports.
Transverse Bar
A member fixed at right angles to
the load bearing bars to provide
lateral restraint.
Binding Bar
A bar or section, of at least equal
thickness to the load bearing bars,
fixed to the edge of a panel,
flush with the top of the load
bearing bars.
Pitch
The distance centre-to-centre of
load bearing bars or centre-to centre
of transverse bars.
Depth
Overall depth of load bearing bars
Length (Span)
The overall dimension of a flooring
panel measured in a direction
parallel with the load bearing bars.
This dimension is always referred
to as ‘length’ even if it is shorter
than the width.
Width
The overall dimension of a flooring
panel measured in a direction at
right angles to the load bearing
bars. This dimension is always
referred to as ‘width’ even if it
exceeds the length.
Effective Span
The clear span between supports. |
