Spacing Between Standards
Tables A and B take into account the limiting stress for the grade of steel specified The horizontal displacement of any part of the barrier should not exceed 25mm. Allowance has been made for the combined deflection of handrails and standards. In order to select a suitable size of handrail standard from the above tables one must first decide:

(a) the horizontal loading requirement
(b) the handrail diameter to be used Having decided the handrail dia. and loading:
(c) select from table A or Table B a suitable standard Note: Height should be taken from fixing point (1) see base details page 15.
(d) check that the handrail dia. is compatible with the size of handrail standard selected.
